Diary of a Downsize©

Rather than wallow in self-pity, I feel that if I share my feelings and the inevitable challenges that one faces through a "downsize", it will be therapeutic for me, and perhaps even helpful to others going through a similar experience.

Long time no write. I was looking at the calendar the other day, and realized that it has been almost two months since the Downsize. Wow, how time flies. I have settled into this home routine far too well methinks. But I have come to realize that I earned some time to “vacation” from the stresses of full-time employment.

That is not to say that I am not still looking. I am. I have touched base with every contact I think I have in the local industry. I think I mentioned that I have found in my searching to date, that knowing someone within a company who will put one’s resume on an HR member’s desk is the way to get through the barriers for an interview. This morning I received a call from an HR person at a local company just to tell me that she has my resume and is keeping it on file for future reference. They have no openings at present requiring my skill set, but want to let me know that they are looking at me if anything comes available. That is encouraging.

I also received a phone call this morning from the first local company that I interviewed with. I had gotten a call last week from the friend who had set me up the first time. His Director, who had interviewed me, asked if I was employed yet, as she has a role coming available that would suit my skill set, and wanted me to touch base with her. I did, and the result was this morning’s call to set up an interview for next Tuesday. I will be meeting with one of the women that I interviewed with previously, as well as the gentleman who got the initial job that I had applied for. I wonder if that will be awkward? The bottom line is that whether I get the job or not, it is encouraging to know that when an interviewer asks to keep one’s resume on file for future reference, they really do come back when something else turns up! I am flattered to have been thought of highly enough to interview for a second role. How’s that for positive thinking?

There is still no word on financing at the Former Company, and whether or not we can expect to get the monies owed to us anytime soon. I will be surprised if I ever see it, to be honest. C’est la vie. But a group of us are getting together this week for lunch and to commiserate as we wish yet another of our layoffees good luck on a new job he is signing onto this week : ) It’s always great to see the gang!
